Kinesiology tape FAQ
What makes PINOTAPE special?
PINO has made PINOTAPE for professional users since 2006. It is a registered medical device, dermatologically and allergy tested, and developed specifically for physiotherapy applications. Every roll combines high skin tolerance with reliable adhesion, a breathable weave that lets air and moisture through, full freedom of movement and a wear time of up to one week.
Which kinesiology tape is right for me?
- Sport – lightweight, water-repellent rayon with PINO's strongest adhesive. Made for athletes, sweat and demanding activity.
- Classic – breathable cotton with a strong hypoallergenic acrylic adhesive. The all-rounder for therapy, sport, work and everyday life.
- Sensitive – extra-mild adhesive for delicate or allergy-prone skin; removes easily and painlessly.
- Correction – about 50% less stretch for added joint stability without limiting functional movement.
Clinics treating large areas or using a lot of tape can also choose PINOTAPE Lymph / extra-wide tape and economical 31 m clinic rolls.
What is the difference between cotton and rayon tape?
Cotton (Classic) is a natural, breathable fibre with the familiar feel many patients prefer. Rayon (Sport, Correction) is lighter, dries faster and repels water, so it holds up better to sweat, showers and intense training.
Is PINOTAPE suitable for people with allergies or sensitive skin?
All PINOTAPE products are dermatologically and allergy tested and use a mild polyacrylate adhesive, so skin reactions are rare. For allergy-prone or very sensitive skin we recommend PINOTAPE Sensitive. If the skin under the tape itches or becomes irritated, remove it straight away – tape applied with too much tension is the most common cause of irritation.
When is kinesiology tape used?
Kinesiology tape is an elastic tape that supports muscles, ligaments and joints without restricting movement. It is commonly used alongside other treatment for pain, overuse, inflammation and instability – for example tennis or golfer's elbow, runner's and jumper's knee, shoulder instability, ankle sprains, posture problems, tendon complaints, lymphoedema and neuropathies.*
How do I apply the tape so it stays on?
- Shave very hairy areas.
- Make sure skin and hands are clean, dry and free of oil or lotion.
- Pre-position the strip before applying it.
- Round off the corners so the edges don't lift.
- Rub the tape after applying – friction and warmth activate the heat-sensitive adhesive.
PINOTAPE is designed to be worn for up to one week.
How is PINOTAPE different from classic sports tape?
Conventional sports tape (rigid athletic or zinc oxide tape) is non-elastic and is used to restrict movement, for example to immobilise a wrist during competition. Kinesiology tape is elastic and allows full range of motion, so the two are used for different purposes and with different application techniques.
Does the tape colour make a difference?
No. Colours are often linked to effects – blue as cooling, red as warming, beige as discreet – but there is no reliable evidence for this. The result depends on the application technique, not the colour, so choose whichever you or your patient prefer.
*The effects of kinesiology taping are based on study trends, case reports and clinical experience and are not considered fully evidence-based. Use tape under the guidance of a qualified clinician; children should only wear tape under adult supervision.
